Welcome to my website! My name is Nicholas Edgerton. I am from Clayton, North Carolina, and have lived in Johnston County my whole life. I attend UNC Charlotte, and my intended major is Mechanical Engineering with a concentration in Motorsports. In my writings, I try to connect with the reading, or find an area in my life that I can apply the reading to. These personal connections can help me understand the writing, and also allow me to share more about my personal life as I write. While reviewing my portfolio, I would like readers to try to find these connections and points I made about the writing, and try to apply the situation and/or story to different areas of their own lives.

Reflective Letter
Dear Professor Knudson,
Throughout this class, I feel that my level of writing has grown substantially. I believe that what I have learned from this class has helped my writing in other classes. The major projects in this class have challenged my work ethic, creativity, and literary capabilities. I have learned to overcome these challenges and complete these projects successfully by managing my time better and completing smaller assignments ahead of time.
I feel that my in-class writings have come a long way. I feel that my later writings have a better choice of words and respond to writings much more in-depth. In this section of my website, I tried to show the diversity in my writing. I showed a bulleted list, a letter, responses to writings, and responses to specific questions.
My inquiry project is what I am most proud of this semester. I worked hard on this project. It correlates with my major, and helped me learn about what I may be working with and around in my future career. My three genres helped to educate my peers, and provide a quick visual representation of the different energy sources. This project was my favorite of the semester, and I believe it is the shining spot of my portfolio as well.
The literacy memoir was probably my most challenging assignment this semester. It challenged me to learn more about my literary past, and how literacy has affected me. I didn’t know that I had such an involved literary past until I wrote this paper, and it helped me find out how important reading and writing has been to me in my life. I think this was the most important project of the semester.
The midterm reflection helped me to evaluate myself at the midway point in the semester. It helped me to recognize my strengths and weaknesses at that point in the semester. It also improved the class to me. The students got a chance to voice their opinions, and the teacher responded, which ultimately improved the class for me. More enjoyment in the class meant that I had more motivation to improve my writings.
Tweets were an interesting genre. They challenged me to condense my thoughts into 140 characters. I think this helped me to pick out the most important parts of my responses and writings, and helped my choice of words.
Overall, I have grown quite a bit since this class began. I believe this portfolio shows how my writing skills have improved, my different strengths and weaknesses in my writings, and the diversity of the writings that I have done throughout the semester. This portfolio showcases my best work in the Inquiry Project and polished Literacy Memoir. I can apply what I have learned in this class to other classes, and hopefully my writing will continue to improve.
Sincerely,
Nicholas Edgerton
