Below are seven of my best in-class writings.
How I Write (8.18.2014)
- First, I collect data on the topic I am writing about
- No background noise
- I must be at a desk, and in a comfortable chair
- I make a template of my paper by planning out what will be included in the intro, body, and conclusion paragraphs
- I then type to my template until I feel I have finished
- I know I am done when I have finished discussing multiple views on a specific topic, and when I have made my stance clear
Sherman Alexie (8.20.2014)
My initial reaction to this reading is how Sherman Alexie overcame diversity. He was lucky to have a father that loved books, and he was also very brave to read them and educate himself. He has now beaten the odds, and is an accomplished writer. This message pertains to the work in UWRT 1103 because we may also need some inspiration for our writings. Alexie had his father, now we need to find motivation and inspiration. The part of the reading that stood out most to me was how Alexie overcame odds, diversity, and bullies to get to where he is today. He says in the reading, "I was supposed to be stupid", but he managed to overcome diversity to achieve success.

Goals for my Portfolio (9.17.2014)
Other than the obvious goal of passing the class, I have a couple goals for my online portfolio. My main goal is for others to learn more about me. I want others to learn about my interests, life, and beliefs through my website's theme, blog posts, design, and projects. I challenge the viewers of my portfolio to find the connections that I have made in my writings and projects and try to make their own connections. I also want viewers to be open-minded while looking through my website. I don't want them to just look at my website, I want them to take something from my website and learn from my writings.

Dear _________ (9.24.2014) (This love letter was intended for Food)
Dear ______,
I love you. I love how you make me feel when I'm with you. Even after I leave Crown Commons, I feel your love for hours until we meet again. I see you multiple times every day, and you always make my day better. Sometimes, you don't make me feel so good. But it's okay, I will go and see you later like always and be happy again. You make me feel so whole and full and warm.
I can't wait to see you again after class, my love.
Love,
Nick

College Papers (9.29.2014)
I believe that a good college paper should address whatever subject is assigned with an unbiased approach that discusses both sides of the assigned argument. Good college papers should display the knowledge that the student has for the subject, whether it be common knowledge or research that has been conducted. They should also be conveyed in an understandable fashion. Having sufficient knowledge about a subject is great, but clearly conveying the message is even more important. The student should identify the target audience. The paper should be written in a manner that appeals to the audience. This should be the basis for how the paper is written. This includes format, flow, and the "lingo" used in the paper.

How do I do my Homework? (10.27.2014)
My homework is an ongoing process. I don't usually "prepare" for homework, I just do it. As an Engineering Student in a college with a competitive Engineering program, I constantly have homework. For most of my homework, I sit at my desk with an overhead light on and the television off. Televisions are a major distraction to my productivity. I usually have music playing, unless I am reading. I always have my laptop open and a scratch notebook handy for math and science problems. If I have a reading assignment, I usually do it in bed so I can relax. Overall, my homework is an ongoing process that is constantly being done, and I do most of it at my desk with music playing.

How do you Revise? (11.3.2014)
I usually revise after I have completed the assigned writing. The easiest way for me to revise a paper is to print out a paper copy. I will proofread the paper copy and write on it in a color that stands out. I don't have a specific color, I just make sure the mark is clearly visible and stands out. I deeply analyze the text and read every word so I can find any flaws. I always mark through misspelled words or bad sentences. I write down ideas and give myself suggestions throughout the paper. After I am finished revising, I take a break and then come back later to complete the paper. I find that the technique that I use is more effective than revising on a computer. It doesn't take as much time, and I can make marks anywhere I need to.

Reflection
I chose these seven writings because I felt like they were my most diverse writings. With this portfolio, I wanted to show my most diverse writings. I included different writing styles, including a bulleted list and a letter. I feel like these writings best show my growth and diversity throughout the semester. I feel like in-class writings have helped my literary skills. Responding to readings and answering critical thinking questions have helped my skills improve, and can be applied to other subjects as well. In all subjects, I have to write, and these writings have helped me to write better.
